Local family law help
Family Lawyer in Aurora
Aurora families facing separation deserve clear answers and a steady hand. Our Newmarket office is a short drive up Yonge Street, and we’re happy to meet by video whenever that’s easier.

Separation and divorce support for people in Aurora
Whether you’ve lived in Aurora for decades or moved here for the schools and green space, a separation can make everything feel uncertain. Our role is to slow things down, explain your choices in plain language, and help you make decisions you can live with.
Elliot Wren and Marcus Ashby help Aurora clients with separation agreements, divorce, support, property and parenting plans – including decision-making responsibility and parenting time, the current terms for what was once called custody and access. Plenty of families resolve these matters without a judge, through negotiation, collaborative family law or mediation. Marcus is an accredited family mediator, and Elliot brings years of courtroom experience to the cases that need it.
How court works for an Aurora family case
There’s no family court in Aurora itself. If you or your former partner starts a case, it goes to the Superior Court of Justice – Family Court on Eagle Street West in Newmarket, usually 10–20 minutes up the road.
Before a case moves far, each of you will usually attend the Mandatory Information Program. Think of it as an orientation: it covers the court process and quieter ways of settling things, such as mediation. Government-funded mediation is free at the courthouse on days you’re scheduled to be there, and low-cost mediation away from the courthouse is offered on a sliding scale based on income.
Local guidance for Aurora parents and commuters
Many Aurora residents commute to Toronto by GO train or along Highway 404, which can make daytime appointments hard to fit in. We offer early, evening and video meetings so you can get advice without losing a day of work.
When children are involved, we focus on the details that make a parenting schedule work in real life: which school they attend, how far each home is from it, and who can realistically handle pickups. A plan that looks fine on paper but means long weekday drives rarely lasts.
If your former partner has moved to Newmarket, King or Richmond Hill, we’ll help you build a routine around both homes. Both York Region school boards serve all of these towns, but a move across a boundary can still mean a new school, so it’s worth talking through before anyone relocates.
Ready to talk it through? A free 30-minute confidential consultation is available in person, by phone or by video. We’ll listen first, answer your questions honestly, and outline sensible next steps. Call (905) 555-0142.
