Your privacy matters to us, especially when you’re reaching out about something as personal as your family. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect through this website and how we protect it.

Who we are

This website is operated by Wren & Ashby Family Law, Suite 210, 1 Example Street, Newmarket, ON L3Y 0A1. We follow the principles of Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and as lawyers we also owe strict duties of confidentiality to our clients under the rules of the Law Society of Ontario.

This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through this website. Information you share once you become a client is also governed by our retainer agreement and our professional obligations.

What we collect

  • Information you give us. When you fill in a contact or booking form, request a download or email us, we collect what you provide, such as your name, email address, phone number, preferred contact method and a short description of your situation.

  • Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we collect technical information such as your browser type, device, approximate location based on your IP address, pages visited and how you arrived at our site.

  • Cookies and similar tools. We use cookies for the site to work properly and, with your consent where required, for analytics and advertising. Our Cookie Notice explains these in detail.

Please keep form messages brief. Don’t send detailed or confidential information until we have confirmed we can act for you and have no conflict of interest.

Why we collect it

  • To respond to your enquiry and arrange a consultation

  • To check for conflicts of interest before we discuss your matter

  • To send you a resource you have requested

  • To understand how visitors use our site so we can improve it

  • To measure whether our advertising is reaching people who find it useful

  • To meet our legal, regulatory and professional obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We only send marketing emails if you have agreed to receive them, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers who help us run the website and our practice, and only as much as they need. These may include our website hosting provider, our form and email delivery services, our scheduling tool and our analytics and advertising partners, such as Google and Meta.

Some of these providers store data outside Canada, including in the United States. When information is stored in another country, it may be accessible to authorities there under local law. We choose providers that commit to protecting personal information.

We may also disclose information when required by law, a court order or the Law Society of Ontario.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry information only as long as we need it for the purposes above. If you contact us but don’t become a client, we generally keep your contact details and the conflict-check information for a limited period so we can avoid future conflicts of interest. Client files are kept for the periods required by our professional obligations and then securely destroyed.

How we protect it

We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections, access controls and secure service providers. No method of sending information over the internet is completely secure, so please choose what you share by form or email carefully.

Your choices and rights

  • Access and correction. You can ask what personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it.

  • Withdrawing consent. You can withdraw consent to certain uses, such as marketing emails or analytics cookies, subject to legal or contractual limits.

  • Questions and complaints. You can contact our privacy officer at any time. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
